Concussion Awareness

Sports Concussions

The Maryland General Assembly passed legislation regarding concussion awareness and management for organized youth sports programs at public school sites and local parks. This bill requires that concussion awareness information be provided to coaches, school personnel, students, and parents or guardians in collaboration with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, local boards of education, and other experts and stakeholders.

Visit Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for a fact sheet / tool kit for coaches called “Heads Up –Concussion in Youth Sports.” Here you will find information for both coaches and athletes regarding this serious issue.

We recommend that you use these materials or similar information to advise your youth participants, parents, and coaches. Compliance includes making the information on concussion and head injuries available to coaches, youth athletes, and parents / guardians.
