Afterschool Lifelong Learning Center

This comprehensive education and recreation enrichment program is driven by grant funded through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program and the Human Services Council. It also reflects a productive partnership between this department and Caroline County Public Schools.

The LLC’s operate at Federalsburg Elementary, Colonel Richards Middle and Colonel High School and Lockerman Middle Schools. Programs include academic enrichment, homework support, and recreation programming during immediate afterschool hours. Other supports include and afterschool snack or dinner and bus transportation to school pick-up location or designated community stop.

The program is supported by additional community partnerships through Maryland 4-H programs, the YMCA of the Chesapeake, Caroline County Council of Arts, the Caroline County Health Department and the Caroline County Public Library.

The grant funding for this program is significant and important to Caroline County and CarolineCounty Public School’s ability to offer a high quality program at minimal cost to the students and their families. The program is assessed annually to confirm we are meeting the goals of the grant funders.

Why Isn’t There a LLC at Your School?
21st Century funding is very competitive and is targeted to schools with a student population that is not quite meeting the academic benchmarks for performance. At the time the grant was developed, these were the schools with the greatest need.
Caroline County Recreation and Parks Department is committed to developing plans to sustain the Lifelong Learning Centers Programs.
